Fundraising & Marketing Director for MapAction.
MapAction is the inspiring non-profit organisation that enables geospatial, mapping and data professionals to donate their time, skills and expertise to meet humanitarian challenges, saving lives and livelihoods.
An experienced fundraising and communications professional, Ian has been in the sector for long enough to have views on most things, many of them since proven wrong by the data. Away from MapAction Ian is also a Board Member of the H2H Network, a Geneva based non-profit which helps a wide range of small and innovative specialist humanitarian service providers to make the global humanitarian system more effective.
A slow but persistent jogger, Ian completed his only marathon recently enough that he still mentions it. A lot. He is also a youth football coach whose team once went two seasons with just one win, which came on the final day of the second season. He was not sacked. Ian knows very little about data science, but for 2 weeks in November 1994 was ranked #1 in the world at Premier League Fantasy Football, which he attributes to a rudimentary understanding of spreadsheets and a very quiet social life at that time. He has not been remotely close to such a rank since.
