Guest Lecture with Marja Laitinen, Senior Director of AI, Microsoft
AI generated deepfakes are realistic, easy for nearly anyone to make, and increasingly being used for fraud, abuse, manipulation, and subversion of democracy. In this session, we’ll provide some insights into the harms that deepfakes present and their impact in undermining our society. At Microsoft we have outlined a comprehensive approach to combat abusive AI-generated content and protect people and communities, and we believe it is imperative that the tech sector continue to take proactive steps to address these harms.
Marja Laitinen, Senior Director in the European Government Affairs team at Microsoft, drives the company’s efforts to encourage responsible AI governance and innovation across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Prior to her work on AI, Marja led the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) in EMEA and, before that, in Central and Eastern Europe.
In these positions, she oversaw a team of legal and technical experts in the fight against cybercrime and online threats. Before joining Microsoft in 2000, Marja worked as a lawyer at Susiluoto Attorneys-At-Law Ltd, a Finnish law firm specializing in intellectual property rights. Marja holds a law degree from the University of Helsinki and is based in Finland.
