Munster Analytics & AI Showcase 2024

Our  Munster Analytics & AI Showcase took place on Thursday April 11th in the impressive surroundings of Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork.

The purpose of the event was to showcase the excellent analytics and AI work being done by a range of our member organisations in the region. It also gave the 150 attendees an opportunity to network with their professional peers.

The event was kindly sponsored by Deloitte and AWS and the organisations that delivered presentations were Dell Technologies, Gas Networks Ireland, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Fexco, North America Bancard, Musgrave, ACI Worldwide, Gilead Sciences, GAA, Deloitte, Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics and Glanbia.

There was a fantastic atmosphere at the event as people really enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experience – a strong sense of community prevailed.

Some reflections from the event:

• AI is up and running in many organisations. Examples shared included ACI Worldwide and North America Bancard using AI to detect credit card fraud – navigating over a billion transactions per day to identify anomalies.
• Gas Networks Ireland are successfully employing Gen AI to build their network map and to identify prospects. Musgrave shared their impressive progress in building a knowledge repository for all their research data.
• The GAA is utilising spatial analysis to identify areas of the country where they need to focus resources in the future. Meanwhile on the pitch, they are also analysing referee behaviour to identify and address unconscious bias in refereeing decisions.
• SEAI and Fexco shared details of a very successful AI project undertaken and the valuable lessons they have learned.
• Glanbia spoke about the challenges and opportunities that arise when trying to embed a data culture across an organisation.
• Gilead shared a very useful presentation describing their ERP journey to SAP.
• The Insight Centre described an impressive data analytics project being utilised by Siemens in their manufacturing process.
• Dell shared details of their advanced approach to building personalisation at scale using data and AI.
• Finally Deloitte reflected on the sea change that is coming in the way we will work in the future as a result of AI and associated technology.

The consensus is that this event was a great success. We are looking forward to the next one already!
