Getting Started in Data Goverance

The Getting Started in Data Governance course, led by Nicola Askham, is designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in Data Governance. Through a structured curriculum, attendees will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of what Data Governance is and its importance in ensuring data availability, usability, integrity, and security.
  • Explore the relationship between Data Governance and critical concepts like Data Quality and Master Data Management.
  • Develop the skills to identify data owners, establish a data policy, and implement a Data Governance framework tailored to their organisation's needs.
  • Learn about key deliverables, such as data catalouge, data lineage and data quality reports.
  • Understand best practices for addressing challenges like cultural change, legacy systems, and stakeholder buy-in.
  • Acquire techniques for effective communication, influencing, and building rapport to drive Data Governance initiatives forward.

There is an optional second day workshop which can be held consecutively or at a later date. This workshop is an opportunity to work with Nicola to turn what you learnt on the first day of training into a practical action plan for your organisation.

Delivery:

This workshop is delivered on a closed course basis only for organisations.
The delivery can be customised and includes a session with Nicola in advance to tailor the content for your specific needs or challenges as an organisation.
This course is delivered live and can be delivered in-person/in a classroom environment or virtually. There is also an option to use pre-recorded modules interspersed with live virtual calls, some attendees find that the change of format and pace during that day makes it easier to remain engaged during virtual training.

Cohort Size: Max 16 participants per cohort (can run multiple cohorts)
Time: 8 hours (including breaks) delivery (both the training and the optional workshop are a full day each).


Who is it for?

This training is ideal for organisations who are trying to understand and manage data better but not sure where to start, those implementing Data Governance but struggling with the many obstacles and also those who want to validate their approach to Data Governance.

 

Requirements:

There are no skill or knowledge pre-requisites for this course. All attendees receive digital copies of the teaching materials as well further useful resources. Attendees of online sessions will need laptops to enable them to follow the materials and participate in the class activities.

There are no software requirements beyond having a modern browser and pdf reader.
